Major Earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand.
Major Earthquake hits Christchurch.
Some photos of damage done in Christchurch by the major 7.1 earthquake that occurred at 4,30am on Saturday morning. My Daughter found herself stranded in the city, she was unhurt but badly shake. By nightfall she managed to get a flight home to Nelson away from all the after shocks that are still happening. There were no fatalities, just a few people hurt by falling masonry etc. Roads; destroyed, water and sewer systems; destroyed, many major old city buildings, private homes and Churches; destroyed, schools all closed, its is going to take a long time and a great deal of money to bring about repairs. After shocks continue to be felt very strongly.
These are not my photos, they are from the net, sent in by people who saw it all happen.
As Christchurch is 300 km away from where I live, we only felt a nasty jolt, with no damage, we were lucky.

Oh goodness, how frightening! No place to get away from something like that. So glad your daughter is safe!
So pleased you are all safe, still it is a wake-up call that these things can happen.
Love and Blessings - Jan
That was quite an experience Glennis
Good your daughter is safe. It is going to take a while before life is back to normal here.
Oh dear, this is really alarming... I hope everything will be back to normal soon. Lord protect your family.
Those are some sad photos, but I'm glad everyone is ok.
Glad you guys and your daughter are okay. Really the affected ones will find peace. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!
Happy to hear from you, Glennis! I'm glad that you and you family are okay. I'm happy, too, that there were only property damage, not injuries or lives lost.
I know what it means to be in a big eartquake. I have experienced the same in İstanbul. So glad to hear that your daughter is safe..

Glennis, I thought of you immediately when I heard of the earthquake. Glad you and your daughter are safe. Such a tragic happening.
Thought of you right away and wondered how you fared. Happy that you are all OK there and that there no fatalities. Damaged infrastructure and houses is enough to have to cope with.
Thank goodness you and your daughter are safe. I saw some of the destruction on the television and my heart went tout to all of you there.
When I heard earthquake in New Zelland I was very upset and sad,God thanks no died or injured, other side your brother news very nice, best wishes, stay well.
I hadn't heard of this quake - glad nobody was killed by falling debris. When we were leaving Picton (ready to board the ferry) many years ago, we experienced the shaking of a quake. It was frightening.
Not much about the quake in the UK media and what there is is sensationalist so good to have an account from you. I'm glad your daughter is safe.
I glad you and your family are safe and sound. Here's hoping your part of the world settles down, soon.
Thank you for your kind thoughts of us all effected by the strong earthquake. Life will not be the same for thousands of Christchurch people, so many buildings are destroyed, but the people are alive and in time they will be settled again. We just hope there will not be another big one any time soon.
SO sad to see all our lovely heritage buildings damaged :(
The quake ravaged some areas, and barely touched others - I guess soil types and building materials play a huge part in the effect.
Glad your daughter was ok ;)
I saw the terrible pictures of the earth quake at T.V.My thoughts and prayers are with the peoples there!I´m glad your daughter is safe.

Glad that your daughter is ok. Nothing is better than a bear hug from mom?
I have elderly relatives in Chrsitchurch, and they were very shaken.
Luckily your daughter was safe but to live an earthquake is quite a stressing experience, I lived one in Palermo, it was a 5,6 in 2002 when I was on holiday in Sicily and I am still a bit frightened when I remember of it! My best regards for you Glenny,
